Peepeekisis Cree Nation Youth Safe House

The Peepeekisis Cree Nation Youth Safe House is a proposed community project designed to address critical gaps in youth protection and support. This purpose-built facility will serve as both an emergency refuge and transitional housing for at-risk youth facing challenges such as homelessness, domestic abuse, and mental health concerns.

The physical structure is envisioned as a commercial-style facility with an approximate size of 7,700 square feet. The facility will include 12 residential rooms (6 for boys and 6 for girls), common areas such as a kitchen, dining/reading space, living/play area, therapy room, and visiting room. Additionally, staff spaces, including offices and a staff bedroom with an ensuite, will ensure 24/7 support. The facility is designed with scalability to accommodate future growth and evolving community needs, ensuring a lifespan of 30 years or more.

The project will occupy a designated land parcel within Peepeekisis Cree Nation at SW-13-22-11-W2M. Preliminary plans include integration with existing infrastructure for utilities, complemented by systems like a holding tank for water and a septic tank for wastewater. Environmental and geotechnical assessments will guide site development, ensuring compliance and sustainability.
