White Bear First Nation Solid Waste Transfer Station Project

White Bear First Nation is proposing to construct a new solid waste transfer station adjacent to the existing un-engineered landfill site. The estimated project area, including the existing landfill, is 8 hectares.

The new transfer station will include the following: interior gravel road surface, grade separated upper and lower pads for waste disposal and collection, pre-cast concrete blocks, chain rail, curb stops, drainage system including ditches and culverts, roll-off bins and shipping containers, chain link fence with gate, and signage. An operator's building will include a propane tank, and a tank system for water and wastewater.

Construction of the new facility will also include the clean-up of and closure of the existing waste site. This will include consolidating waste currently distributed beyond the boundaries of the existing landfill and in the immediately adjacent land. Trees will be removed and available for use by Band members, other vegetation will be composted as directed by the Engineer. Clean metals, automobiles, appliances/white metals, batteries, masonry, bricks, concrete, rocks, wood and tires will be retained in separate piles for recycling.-Where possible, pressurized containers, will be depressurized, removed and stockpiled separately for recycling. -Excavated soil will be placed, unmixed, into mounds as appropriate and used in construction and for landscaping purposes as directed by the Engineer. Once operational, the system will manage solid waste generated by the community.
