Sanitary Mainline, Manhole, Waterline and Valve Repairs and Replacement at Edmonton International Airport

January 29, 2025 –Edmonton Regional Airports Authority must decide whether the proposed Sanitary Mainline, Manhole, Waterline and Valve Repairs and Replacement Project located at the Edmonton International Airport is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

To help inform this decision, Edmonton Regional Airports Authority is inviting comments from the public on the project and its potential effects on the environment. All comments received will be considered public [and may be posted online]. For more information, individuals should consult the Privacy Notice on the Registry website.

The Proposed Project

The Sanitary Mainline, Manholes, Waterline and Valve Repairs and Replacement Project at the Edmonton International Airport (YEG) will replace the aging sanitary and potable waterline as well as repair infrastructure to improve long term performance. The project will take place at select areas throughout YEG including along 36th Street and 44th Avenue. The scope of work includes but not limited to: detailed project design and earthworks to repair and replace infrastructure.

May 5, 2025 – Edmonton Regional Airport Authority has determined that the proposed Sanitary Mainline, Manhole, Waterline and Valve Repairs and Replacement project at the Edmonton International Airport is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

This determination was based on a consideration of the following factors:

  • impacts on rights of Indigenous peoples;
  • Indigenous knowledge;
  • community knowledge;
  • comments received from the public; and
  • technically and economically feasible mitigation measures.

Edmonton Regional Airports Authority is satisfied that the carrying out of the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. Therefore, Edmonton Regional Airports Authority may carry out the project, exercise any power, perform any duty or function, or provide financial assistance to enable the project to be carried out in whole or in part..
