Brokenhead Ojibway Nation Land Base Building

The Land Base Building will provide children, youth and families in the community with land base skills and cultural teachings.  The building will provide space for hunting, trapping, medicine gathering, wild rice harvesting teachings as well as wilderness survival, hunter safety, and other training.  The building will also provide space for processing traditional foods and storing equipment for land base training and travel.

It will be a one story building with a mezzanine and adjoining parking lot.  The building will be constructed on undeveloped land and comprise an approximate area of 1,300 m2.  Sewer and water services for the new development will be provided by a new potable groundwater well and a septic field.  A closed-loop geothermal system is also proposed for heating/cooling purposes. Ground mounted solar panels will be utilized as a secondary energy source for the proposed development. A back-up emergency generator supported by a 5,000 L diesel tank will also be included in the proposed development.

Construction is anticipated to commence in late 2025 and be completed by mid-2026.

Indigenous Services Canada will be providing funding for the project.
