Trans-Canada Highway Twinning Project

The Ontario Ministry of Transportation is constructing two new lanes located on a 40-kilometre stretch of the Trans-Canada Highway (also called Highway 17) between the Manitoba/Ontario border and the Highway 17/17-A Junction in Kenora, Ontario.


Latest update

September 17, 2024 – The Impact Assessment Agency of Canada’s Vice-President of Operations, on behalf of the Minister of Environment and Climate Change, has responded that the Trans-Canada Highway Twinning Project proposed by the Ontario Ministry of Transportation cannot be designated under the amended Impact Assessment Act that came into force on June 20, 2024, because it has substantially begun. The reasons are provided in the Vice-President’s of Operations response.
