Coastal Stabilization, Hartlen Point, Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Halifax

The Department of National Defence (DND) is proposing to implement coastal stabilization for the eroding shoreline to the southeast and northeast of the Land Based Test Facility (LBTF) project site. For the southeast shoreline, a static revetment (i.e. sloped structure) is proposed along the shoreline areas that are susceptible to wave-induced erosion. Slope flattening and vegetation on the top of the bank is also being proposed to protect the slope against runoff induced erosion from the top of the slope. For the northeast shoreline, a static elevated dike is proposed along the shoreline to protect the shoreline against wave action and coastal flooding. Construction of the proposed coastal stabilization structures is anticipated to begin Fall 2025.
