Deep Geological Repository (DGR) for Canada's Used Nuclear Fuel Project

The Nuclear Waste Management Organization (the NWMO) is proposing to prepare for, construct, and operate a new underground deep geological repository system designed to safely contain and isolate used nuclear fuel. Two potential project sites are currently being considered: the Saugeen Ojibway Nation-South Bruce area and the Wabigoon Lake Ojibway Nation-Ignace area. As proposed, the NWMO's Deep Geological Repository (DGR) for Canada's Used Nuclear Fuel Project would provide for the long-term management of up to six million bundles of used nuclear fuel and operate for about 50 years. The project assessment is being conducted in collaboration with the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission.

Please note the project was formerly known as the Adaptive Phased Management Project.
