Seine River First Nation - Water Treatment Plant Construction Project

Seine River First Nation has proposed the construction of a new Water Treatment Plant (WTP) to replace the existing WTP. The proposed site for the new WTP is west of the ball diamond within the commuity. The project will include the replacement of the raw water intake pipe (90m long 200mm diameter) into the Seine River, installation of a new low lift pumping station with a 400m long 200mm diameter pipe, new below grade water reservoir (volume size of approx. 100 m3), and construction of a parking area.

The project also includes extension of watermain and sewermain systems (assumed length of 1,300m respectively), extension of roadway and electrification (assumed length of 1,300m and 150mm ND), and construction of a water booster pumping station and sewage pumping station to service a new development area.

Other activities will include replacements of the existing sewage pumping station (SPS) and top of the SPS is proposed to be extended approx. 3m to be above the projected flood elevation and replacement of the existing 150mm ND watermains along Horse Collar Junction Road, River Side Road, Learning Centre Road and Arts and Crafts Road (approx. 1,307m in length). 

Physical activities for the project include clearing, grubbing, demolition, grading, construction of new WTP, and installation of infrastructure servicing components (watermains, sewers, etc.) and restoration of affected areas.

Latest update

April 1, 2025 – Indigenous Services Canada intends to make a determination regarding whether the carrying out of the project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. To help inform this determination, Indigenous Services Canada is inviting public comments until May 1, 2025 respecting the determination.
