Hazard Spruce Tree Removal

There is a large outbreak of spruce beetle in Glacier National Park. This project proposes to remove large volumes of 'grey attack' (i.e. standing dead) mature spruce trees within campgrounds and day use area that pose a safety risk to visitors and workers. Work will be phased over a 5 year period to reduce ecological impacts while mitigating site hazards. Current year removal estimates are:

Hemlock Grove Day Use Area (3 ha): 114 grey trees

Loop Brook Campground (2.5 ha): currently under assessment

Illecillewaet Campground (12 ha): 138 grey trees

Monument Day Use Area (2 ha): 200 grey trees
