Trans Mountain Miette River Encroachment Site 6

Trans Mountain Pipeline ULC is proposing an engineered bank armouring project along a 50-metre section of the Miette River in Jasper National Park. Ground inspections identified a geohazard from steady erosion of the riverbank to within 3.2-metres of the existing Trans Mountain Line 1 and Line 2 pipelines at kilometer post KP403.43. Trans Mountain plans to protect the pipeline from exposure and damage by constructing a riprap revetment, a self launching apron and a raised earthen cutoff berm west of the revetment location. With the implementation of these engineered measures, the existing pipelines will be protected from potential exposure or future damage caused by continued erosion of the Miette riverbank. The project will require access along the pipeline right-of-way and require a disturbance footprint of 1-2 hectares to construct the riprap apron and berm. Constructing the toe of the riprap apron will require work below the ordinary high-water mark of the river. Project activities include vegetation clearing, grading, compaction, placing of fill above and below the ordinary high-water mark, and seeding and planting with native species. The work is tentatively planned for fall 2026 and will take a small workforce about one month to complete.
