Altalink 551L Transmission Line Wildfire Mitigation Project

AltaLink is proposing a combination of targeted vegetation management activities and insulated wire installations on the 551L transmission line in Banff National Park. The project aims to mitigate trees contacting the transmission line and potential for ignition of wildfire. Targeted vegetation management includes selective danger tree removal outside of the existing right-of-way and removal, trimming or topping of trees in environmental or other constraint areas. New insulated wire infrastructure will be installed within the existing right-of-way in areas where tree removal or vegetation modification is not desirable to protect ecological, cultural, and aesthetic values. A Basic Impact Assessment will be used to mitigate the impacts of this project.
