Rimrock Hotel Renovations - Phase 4: Exterior Spa Expansion & Landscape

Project consists of an expansion to the hotel's exterior spa area to accommodate a new pool and seating areas with fire features and saunas. In place of the existing wooden deck, a new concrete patio will incorporate the outdoor pool structure with an associated exterior mechanical room (pump chamber and surge tank) located beneath the patio along with foundations. The existing adjacent retaining walls and landscape will be altered to accommodate the new design. New lighting will be added to the exterior. Landscaping at the front of the property will also be altered.

Construction access via the gravel route east of the property has been requested and may require some maintenance and repair (e.g. blading, compaction, added gravel) to support construction equipment. Additional excavation/leveling/ramping between the rear access route and the back of the hotel Is also proposed to accommodate construction equipment and facilitate access to the spa expansion construction area.

Project will involve vegetation removal, excavation/backfill/grading, and re-landscaping/restoration. Construction is planned for 2025-2026 in conjunction with interior and exterior hotel renovations (modification, maintenance and repair without expansion) which were previously assessed and fell under the Designated Classes of Projects Order SOR/2019-323 so did not require a Registry posting or Impact Assessment Act s. 82 decision. 

Latest update

June 1, 2025 – The public comment period on the project is closed. Parks Canada is considering comments received to help inform its determination on whether the carrying out of the project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
