AltaLink 54L Transmission Rebuild

AltaLink Management Ltd. has proposed a complete replacement of the existing 54L transmission line, within the existing right of way, as it is nearing the end of its life. The 54L transmission line runs from the Banff National Park east boundary to the AltaLink Banff 123s substation within the Town of Banff. The transmission line rebuild will improve electric reliability to Banff and Lake Louise, increase durability and improve fire resilience with weathered steel structures, and mitigate wildfire risks through removal of adjacent trees that are tall enough to fall on the line. Main proposed activities include vegetation removal, excavation, installation of bypass structures, replacement of transmission line, transportation of construction materials and equipment on site, and creating temporary staging areas for construction material delivery. The project is planned to start in 2026 and continue through 2032.
