North MÎnÎ ThnÎ Water and Wastewater Linear Infrastructure Project

This project is for the construction of additional water & sanitary pipelines to service residents throughout MÎnÎ ThnÎ. The proposed pipeline alignments will include tying into the existing Townsite Water Treatment Plant.

Installation of the water/sanitary pipeline will be installed and constructed using primarily open-cut trenched methods, with the exception of the two proposed Hwy 1A crossings (to be completed using HDD methods).  The project footprint is estimated at 40,000 squae metres with the majority of the alignment runs along disturbed roadside ditches to minimize road disturbance as much as possible, but some portions do span through partially disturbed fields or previously cleared areas. Portions of the project that tie into the existing Townsite Water Treatment Plant are within 30 metres of the Bow River/Ghost Lake Reservior but located above the ordinary high water mark. Two ephemeral unnamed mapped watercourses (ID64559 &ID64590) will be crossed by the project.

The project area does not occur within any avian species sensitivity ranges or National Migratory Bird Sanctuaries. However, portions of the project area intersect with the Key Wildlife and Biodiversity Zone associated with the Bow River/Ghost Lake Reservoir. No bird nests have been identified in proximity of the project footprint and no terrestrial species at risk have been identified within 1000 metres of the project footprint. Bull trout is federally listed under the Species at Risk Act and is potentially occurring in the Bow River/Ghost Lake Reservoir. Alberta Fish and Wildlife Information Management System screening did not identify any bull trout from the previous fish inventories within the 1-kilometre search radius from the project and the extent of the Bow River at the project location is not considered as critical habitat for this species.
