Pyramid Bench Wildfire Risk Reduction

Parks Canada is proposing Wildfire Risk Reduction (WRR) activities in Jasper National Park. The Jasper Field Unit plans to conduct mechanical tree removal in fuel treatment units situated west and northwest of the Jasper townsite in the Pyramid Bench area. The project objective is to remove coniferous forest fuels for the purpose of reducing crown fire potential, fire intensity, and rates of spread upwind of the community and critical infrastructure. The proposed work supports ongoing wildfire risk reduction efforts in JNP, building upon previously completed vegetation management and maintenance activities. Parks Canada will complete a basic impact assessment to assess and mitigate potential environmental and cultural impacts of the project.
