Repair of the Waskesiu River riffle weir

The riffle weir on the Waskesiu River was designed to regulate water levels on Waskesiu Lake while allowing for fish passage. The weir has been damaged following several years of high streamflow and is no longer functional. This project will repair and restore the weir to its original operating condition. The project will involve the construction of an impermeable berm to reestablish flow over the weir. Rock armour will be placed above and below the weir to reduce the likelihood of future damage. Installation of a temporary coffer dam will be necessary during the construction of the berm. The Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada has provided a letter of advice which includes mitigation measures which will help prevent harmful alteration, disruption or destruction of fish habitat.
