East Saint John Terminal Slope Stabilization Project

To protect the shoreline and site infrastructure, Irving Oil Limited is proposing to stabilize the slope at their East Saint John Terminal located at 350 Bayside Drive, adjacent to Courtenay Bay in Saint John, New Brunswick.

The slope stabilization project will consist of the installation of 300-400, 36-inch, open-end steel pipe piles of varying lengths, as well as the placement of armour stone along the shore, extending approximately 100 m from the high water mark, and 500 m parallel the shoreline. Site works will include dredging to allow a pocket for the toe of slope for the armour stone placement. The dredging area is located immediately adjacent and further inland of an area that is subject to annual maintenance dredging. Upon completion of pile installation, they will be cut at the mudline, and armour stone will be placed. To support the above work, a temporary trestle will be installed for pile driving, dredging and rock placement access, which will later be removed upon completion of the Project. The project will be divided into two phases with the first phase to commence in 2024, followed by the second phase to start in 2026/2027.
