Country Hills Blvd Widening and Feedermain Installation - 36 Street and Barlow Trail N

The City of Calgary is moving forward with the design and construction of Country Hills Boulevard Expansion (the Project). The Project is partially on lands owned by the Calgary Airport (YYC) and is therefore subject to a review under Section 82 of the Impact Assessment Act for projects on federal lands. The Calgary Airport Authority is the lead federal authority, with City of Calgary named as the project proponent.

The Project involves expanding the existing 2 lane roadway network to a 6-lane network (3 lanes east, 3 lanes west) as well as installing the City's Crossties Water Feedermain through this portion of road widening. The project limits are from 36 Street NE to 800 metres west towards Barlow Trail NE along the north boundary of the Calgary International Airport (YYC). Construction of the roadway system within the airport jurisdiction will involve approximately 800 metres of road construction, including utility relocations, earthwork cuts and fills, placement of subgrade, gravels, asphalt concrete, and erosion control measures. The roadway will also include curb and gutter as well as pedestrian walkways.

Proposed activities will have a disturbance width varying from 5 metres to 30 metres. Activities will include regrading and backsloping to accommodate the new road grade and tie into surrounding lands. Following construction, the area will be revegetated with a seed mix to align with the surrounding land use.

Some construction is proposed for January 2025 to prepare for detour lanes that will become permanent; however, it is contingent on receipt and timing of the approval. The majority of the construction program is anticipated to occur from spring to fall of 2025.
