ATCO Kainai Forage Gas Distribution Project

ATCO is proposing to install a new natural gas regulating facility, line heater, and natural gas distribution main on Blood Tribe 148 Reserve Lands to service existing homes and commercial buildings. The proposed regulating facility and line heater will be located adjacent to the Kainai Forage Development and the gas main will be installed from the regulating facility and extend for 5.1 kilometers East along an unnamed road. The gas main will be installed by a combination of trenchless horizontal direction drilling, plowing, and trenching. Additional project activities include the construction of a 10 x 10 meter gravel approach, grading, installation of a gravel pad and fencing for the regulating facility, and installation of solar panels.

 

The gas main will cross one unnamed Class D watercourse and ten wetland areas along the roadside. No tree clearing is expected for the proposed work. The Project is not in the vicinity of any known species at risk but is within the ranges of sharp-tailed grouse, prairie falcon, golden eagle, and ferruginous hawk. Indigenous Services Canada will be issuing a Land Permit under Section 28(2) of the Indian Act.
