Lac La Ronge Indian Band Wellness Healing and Recovery Center

The Wellness Center located on NE 20-70-22-W2 is a health care facility for the treatment of mental health and addictions located in La Ronge, SK on one of the Lac La Ronge Indian Band reserves. It is approximately 2000 m2 and includes a live in component for addictions and mental health treatment for up to 22 clients. It also will provide pre and after care for clients with mental health concerns and clients that have been through treatment. The facility will provide a variety of care options including modern, religious and land based cultural treatment. On the site will be the main center plus cultural learning facilities including meat and medicine prep, greenhouse, garden, and sweat lodge. 

The project is located within a serviced portion of the reserve. Water, sewer, power, communication and gas are all at the property boundaries. A project management team was established at the start of the project. The PMT engaged with a project management provider and a prime consultant. The design proceeded through all standard design phases and was put out to tender. A contractor was selected and is responsible for all site construction activities. There is a requirements for the contractor to engage local labour, service providers and suppliers in the completion of their work. The facility will be operated by the LLRIB Health department and will include professionals from the Saskatchewan Health Authority. 

At the end of service the building will be decommissioned the same as other commercial buildings. Construction wastes will be managed by the contractor. Any recyclable construction waste will be sorted. Other waste will be disposed of according to their type. During operations wastes will be similar to a health clinic. Any medical wastes will be managed according to provincial guidelines. All other waste and recyclables will be managed through municipal waste collection.
