  • A total of 496 submissions of the attached form letter were received by Impact Assessment Agency of Canada between July 24, 2025 and August 13, 2025. They were submitted by Sierra Club Canada on behalf of individuals that responded to a form posted on the Sierra Club Canada website Letter to IAAC CC: The Honourable Dominic LeBlanc, MP for Beausejour To whom is may concern: I am writing to express my concern that a new gas and diesel fired electricity plant is being rushed through the impact assessment process in New Brunswick. This plant will be expensive and increase NB Power’s reliance on volatile fracked gas from the United States at a time when renewable energy and storage is becoming cheaper than fossil fuels. As wildfires burn across this country, we need to turn down the heat of climate change, not turn it up by burning more fracked gas and diesel. I am also concerned that the location of this plant in Tantramar New Brunswick will harm birds, wildlife ...

  • To The Impact Assessment Agency Canada August 13, 2025 Comments on Centre Village Renewables Integration and Grid Security Synchronous Condensing/Generation Facility Project - Initial Project Description By Ecological Justice Working Group, United Church of Canada, Regions East Contact: Dr. Mary Lou Harley Thank you for the opportunity to comment on this Initial Project Description prepared by PROENERGY Holding Company, Inc. The United Church of Canada has a long history of policies, documents, and submissions on social, environmental and ethical issues relating to energy issues and climate change. These Comments are grounded in that extensive base. Overall The proponent’s document is thin in required detail and documentation, dismissive of several aspects that need to be comprehensively addressed, and inadequate in information in areas of potential impacts particularly related to this site selection. The proponent provides comments but no data ...

  • I am submitting an addendum to my previous comment, no. 166, in which I requested a complete environmental impact assessment of this project. At a question and answer event hosted by PROENERGY in Tantramar on August 13, we found out that the documents submitted to the IAAC and shared at community events misrepresent the level of engagement with Indigenous stakeholders. On page 4 of their submission, PROENERGY says that: "WattBridge will also continue to engage NSMTC as a minor equity partner in the Project." Their poster presentation at open houses on August 12 and 13 claims that "Facility will be owned by PROENERGY and the North Shore Mi'kmaq Tribal Council (NSMTC) under a 25-year power purchase agreement with NB Power." At the event on August 13, a representative of the NSMTC said that they have an option to become equity partners. This has not yet happened and he was unwilling or unable to speak on behalf on communities that the proponent ...

Attachment Opposition to the 'Center Village Renewables Integration and Grid Security Project' - Consider future generations

  • I am writing to express my opposition to the proposed project. We are in a climate emergency that has been caused by the burning of fossil fuels. The climate crisis has already resulted in loss of life in all parts of the world, with a disproportionate impact on marginalized populations. The science is clear: we must stop burning fossil fuels in order to mitigate this crisis and prevent further loss of life and ecosystems. The more fossil fuels we emit, the closer the risk of crossing irreversable tipping points in Earth's ecological systems. The global context is crucial to understand, because the actions we take here have implications for lives in other parts of the world. Canada is a privileged country; we have both the opportunity and the responsibility to transition to renewable energy. The proposed project would lock New Brunswick into decades more of fossil fuel use. This cannot happen. We do not have the carbon budget globally to be undertaking new fossil fuel ...
