There has been no public participation or consultation relating to the development or planning of this project through engagement of the individuals living within the region, and has not fulfilled any environmental or social impact assessments. While it is encouraging that the project has consulted with indigenous people, the blatant lack of involvement of those living within the community, the agencies of elected officials or government representatives, or other community stakeholders speaks volumes to the lack of consideration this project has for the people living within the extended region that the project will share a social and environmental landscape with. This lack of transparency and involvement brings many questions to the forefront of this projects development, many of which will remain unanswered due to a lack of an environmental impact assessment and many other incomplete assessments on the part of the proposed project. Due to this lack of consultation and due diligence on the part of the proposed project, it should not be allowed to proceed.
Proper consideration beyond a bare minimum of site selection based on convenience due to the intersection of a gas line and power distribution, a minimal historical importance for indigenous peoples of the region, and minimal ecological impacts on fish spawning grounds are not ample enough reasons to support the development of this project. Many questions remain regarding how local infrastructure will be impacted from ground water to road conditions for locals, if local services will be able to respond adequately in environmental or health emergencies given the limited access and availability of services for EMT, local/volunteer Fire or other rapid responders, and how this site may be impacted by environmental factors given its location within a wetland area. Until such time that this project can adequately address these factors and concerns, integrate the social and environmental values of the community through proper engagement and consultation and adequately satisfy those of the region sharing their resources and landscape with this project, the project should not be undertaken.
