Opposition to Proposed Plant

I want to register my opposition to the proposed power plant in Centre Village, NB. This project is short sighted and does not have the best interest of the local community and environment in mind. We are experiencing the effects of climate change this summer with the extreme drought conditions, and multiple areas of NB currently on fire, with higher than usual levels of fire activity. The province should be exploring truly renewable energy sources that do not rely on fossil fuels that will contribute to climate warming emissions. Furthermore, the Chignecto Isthmus is an important wildlife corridor and home to many species of wildlife. Their habitats have been degraded and are already in need of restoration, and this project would do the opposite, introducing dangerous gases and the very real threat of release of environmental contaminants into the surrounding waterways. The area is also the only land mass connecting Nova Scotia to the rest of Canada, and has high risk of flooding due to climate change. Finally, this plant would be owned by an American company - in a time of precarity and political turmoil it is ill advised to give power to American stakeholders. Do better NB Power, your ratepayers deserve a solution that preserves the area for generations to come, listens to environmental experts, and truly serves local community.
