Loon River First Nation: Community Infrastructure Head Start Building

Loon River First Nation proposes the construction and operation of a community building and appurtenant infrastructure (parking, utilities, playground, etc.) on a 4,225 square meter site. The site has been cleared of woody vegetation and selected for its proximity to the new community hall, and colocation of access roads. There is a mixed wood forested area west of the site with access roads and developed lands south and east of the site. A wetland is located approximately 300 m away and is unlikely to be impacted by the development. Wildlife, including species a risk have been recorded in the area; however, habitat of the immediate site is marginal and woodland caribou are not expected in the community. Management considerations have been identified for the handling of soils and the import of fill material.

End of Public Comment Period 

May 16, 2025 - The public period on the project is closed. Indigenous Services Canada is considering comments received to help inform its determination on whether the carrying out of the project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
