Permanent decommissioning of Canadian Coast Guard infrastructure at the Point Heath, Anticosti

The Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) wishes to permanently decommission two 50,000 L buried diesel tanks and a 13,620 L Jet A above-ground tank and to dismantle a guyed tower at the Heath Point site, located on the east of Anticosti Island. These activities will be carried out between 2022 and 2024, once the new Anticosti telecommunication site has been commissioned. The decommissioning of the tanks consists of emptying, transferring the diesel and jet A fuel, and cleaning the related equipment. These hazardous residual materials will be managed in accordance with applicable regulations. All decommissioned equipment will remain on site to be recovered in a later phase (2025). The guyed tower will be put down by controlled and directed fall, avoiding sensitive components of the environment (e.g. ruin of the old lighthouse and peat bog). The tie rods will be cut at ground level and the shrouds and sections of the tower will be cut in section. The dismantled structure will be left in place and recovered in 2024.
