Camp for Ekuanitshit guardians

The project aims to promote the transmission of the cultural and traditional knowledge of the Inuit community of Ekuanitshit as part of the Indigenous Guardians Project. Implementation of the project, which will begin in the fall of 2024, will result in the creation of a gathering place for these exchanges on Île à Bouleau du Large (BOUL), located in the Mingan Archipelago National Park Reserve. The infrastructure planned for the island will include three camping sites on wooden platforms, a Shaputuan, a site for picnic tables on wooden platforms, dry toilets, a wood shed and an observation lookout. Gathering sites and accessible gravel or wood trails will link these infrastructures, which will be installed in the forest and on the shoreline. No species-at-risk habitats or rare plants of interest are present on the selected sites. To develop these new sites, clearing, stump removal and minor backfilling work will be required.
