Lark Harbour Search and Rescue Wharf Extension

The proposed project involves the construction of a wharf extension at the Search and Rescue (SAR) station located in Lark Harbour, NL. The existing wharf consists of a concrete launchway, a floating dock and gangway, storage shed, fueling tanks and a paved area.  The proposed project will include the removal of the floating dock and gangway as well as the removal of a portion of the existing armour stone. A new L-shaped wharf extension will be constructed consisting of a 6.1 metres (m) wide by 52.1 m long and a 6.1 m wide by 25.4 m long sections. The wharf extension will be constructed of concrete decking with steel bearing piles. The piles will be anchored into bedrock and tied into the existing infrastructure. A floating dock will be installed to the south of the wharf.  Approximately 930 cubic metres of sediment will be dredged to accommodate construction and use of the new wharf. Armour stone protection will be re-instated in the dredged area. The project will involve the use of heavy equipment such as excavators, dump trucks and a barge for dredging.

September 13, 2021 – The public comment period on the project is closed. Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Real Property Safety and Security is considering comments received to date to inform its determination on whether carrying out of the project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
