Berens River First Nation Road Upgrades

The proposed project aims to upgrade and reconstruct existing roads in the community. There are 34 kilometres of main roads in Berens River that are on provincial land and federal reserve land. This project thus has two components – this one being specifically related to the portion of the project located on reserve land – the other is another project focusing on provincial roads. The 34 km of road consists of 18 km of main road (7.5 km provincial and 10.5 km federal reserve) and 16 km of side roads. The road conditions are poor and the project work consists of:

  • Clearing and grubbing along the edge of existing roads and in ditches
  • Production of aggregates with grading and shaping of the roadway
  • Installation of hot mix asphalt surface to reduce dust release

There will be minor vegetation clearing along the roadside and works within 30 m of a waterbody.

Latest update

2024-05-17 – The Indigenous Services Canada issued its Notice of Determination and determined that the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
