Vegetation Maintenance along the Bell Aliant Fibre Optic Line

Vegetation management is required along the Bell Aliant Fibre Optic line to ensure that communication services are safely and effectively delivered to the operations compound region in Terra Nova National Park. This work will be completed by NL Vegetation Control Ltd. on behalf of Parks Canada. The route requiring vegetation management runs from the Coast Guard building at the TNNP operations compound to the main line adjacent to the Trans Canada Highway. Total distance requiring clearing is approximately 300 - 400 m.  Vegetation management includes the removal of canopy trees that are in direct contact with the fibre optic line or are likely to threaten the stability of the line following wind and/or ice storms. All understory trees and shrubs that do not impose an immediate threat to the line will be left intact. Tree removal will be completed using chainsaws and other handheld equipment. All work plans will be inspected and approved by Parks Canada Staff prior to vegetation removal.
