For your information the pollution plume of No2 which converts to Nox ( Nitric Acid & Nitrous Acid) when mixed with water/dew. With the current yearly estimate of 1,128 tons emitting from the plant and thermal inversions of roughly 90 odd days per year trapping the emissions to the ground it would far exceed the emission standards of Health Canada for daily exposure for the school & arena children & residents. The attached document will address a best practise way of removing some of the possible additional No2 which I understand could be forthcoming on top of this figure or at least migrate the issue slightly if the company practises best methods. The water that they waste is an incredible amount, and Alberta needs what water they can get. Nicholas, This is starting to make more sense now they are not purchasing but sidelining the holders of this land or using them if they assign more licenses from the bow river by WID seniority at 66% purity versus 40% for highly saline langdon area. They can justify saying they have enough ground water for Langdon to compensate using these sections but at the cost of additional saline extraction & need for 26% more water. They are rushing all these deadlines and are trying to get it through by April 30th at the latest. This is to push through likely another water licence(I think the 750m3/day shown in Beacon Ai updated presentation) with the agreement of WID. The interesting thing is this 2-10 person company incorporated in 2025 doing this massive technical survey is being funded by Langdon waterworks for the (first stage) involving the redesignation. Boucher (the 77 1/4 section guy I mentioned) volunteering to a committee that nobody pays attention to is suggesting to create a corridor from Langdon to Indus for water purposes, bring the WID to cover this area and bypass the regulation as they again extend their senior license. There are many concerns regarding this data center. First and foremost AI is not yet profitable. Investing Alberta's resources into a product that is losing millions in investment dollars every year is a waste of our tax dollars. Secondly, data centers use extremely high amounts of water and energy. How will water be allocated in times of drought? To the farmers and locals or to this center? This is an environmental and monetary risk and Alberta doesn't need it.

It remains the family's wish that our farm land remains fertile, free of construction & roadside litter, and that natural sources of water, be they from acquifers or wetlands, be preserved and life-giving for future generations farming and living in the county. Under the Alberta Water Act and the Master Agreement on Apportionment, this "Junior" license is subject to mandatory suspension if the Bow River falls below the Water Conservation Objective (WCO) of 45 m3/s. As an IT professional, an Albertan, and a human being I thoroughly oppose this data centre on every level. Professionally, I've reviewed large amounts of research by experts, tried the technology myself, and seen the effect it's having on the work produced and the industry - the vast majority of what are marketed as "AI" systems (namely Generative AI/systems built on LLMs) are worse than useless. They are a "solution" in search of a problem; they just make more work and wasted time for the people who know what they're doing, cleaning up after it. There are completely obscene and unsustainable amounts of money being poured into them that can never possibly pay off, which in turn is decimating genuinely useful parts of the industry. Alberta as a province cannot support an AI data centre, and honestly, AI economy is a bubble increasingly close to bursting. This would be a waste of money, resources, and be incredibly damaging to the environment. Canada does not need these data centres.

I strongly oppose the Beacon AI Centers Indus Project. AI Data Centres require a vast amount of water to operate, and as such are a huge strain on the environment. As well, the water system is already strained, with Calgary having faced two water usage advisories in the last couple years. As well, these data centres produce a lot of noise and vibrations that would disturb and/or drive away both wildlife and local residents, disrupting Albertan citizens. The detriments far outweigh any possible economic gains.

I strongly oppose the Beacon AI Centers Indus Project. I oppose its construction and I oppose its very concept. Calgary's water supplies are unstable and at the present moment, we're under an order to conserve water; the construction of a data centre, especially one used for generative AI, would put immense strain on an already inadequate water system. Alberta's climate, including in the Calgary area, is getting drier, and a data centre would contribute to that. The impacts of a data centre on local climate and infrastructure would put more strain on farmers, and with the opposition to oil and gas from climate activists (and climate activism has been gaining ground due to the damages that LLMs cause), Alberta's economy cannot afford to knock out a supporting pillar. Do not proceed with this project.

This is the same comment that I posted in the input for the proposed Heartland data centre. Given the past few years of increasingly intense heat and drought experienced by this province during summer months, and the ever increasing cost of electricity, it is unconscionable that the government of Alberta and Canada are even considering allowing the energy and resource sucking monstrosity known as data centres to be built in this province. Even the advocates of these centres recognize the strain these operations put on the local resources. Beyond initial construction and a handful of jobs after the fact, any benefit to the presence of the data centre leaves the community where it is creating the damage and the people living next to them are left to work around them. A project like this does little to nothing to benefit Albertans and only serves to make the rich richer. It has been well documented that AI data centres consume unsustainable amounts of water to run and disturb local wildlife with sound and vibration. No one but large corporations and capital investors are asking for this to be created and it's frankly ridiculous that we're even considering supporting it. An AI data center would be a waste of every resource put into it, money, jobs, land, and water. It would be a waste of money that should be used to fund our already crippled public services, money that the province frankly cannot spare on something that does not provide any real benefit to the communities it would purportedly serve. Albertans do NOT need an AI data center built here. We have other pressing issues right now that need more attention, such as in Calgary, where we need to fix and improve our main water pipe systems as they're old and may break again. Not to mention, the water and electricity usage concerns this data center will use. Alberta in general is already dealing with consistent droughts, hundreds if not thousands of forest fires yearly, and municipal electricity demands that are already not being met by the power companies who only seek to wring every possible cent from Albertans. Data centres are environmentally risky, resource-intensive sites that provide very few job opportunities while passively generating capital for the already wealthy. Alberta would see little to no benefit from this, certainly not enough to outweigh what it would be putting in, especially considering how precarious the province's water situation is already. I believe this project is a bad idea that has a good chance of making life worse for Albertans and very little chance of making it better.

I would like to submit that I disapprove of the proposed AI data center. Centers like this are intensely water-heavy, and especially with recent water issues in the city of calgary and with longer term near drought conditions in southern alberta as a whole, building a center that would take such a toll on water use and the environment would be detrimental. I do not believe it is worth the potential downsides for a data center that would supply a tool that is at best, ineffective for most large scale uses, and at worst, actively harmful.

The Calgary water main is in shambles and keeps breaking. It needs a massive amount of repairs and replacements just to maintain the water needs of the current population. Adding a power-hungry, water-polluting AI slop house onto the already overburdened water and power systems is the worst possible thing you can do. Is the plan to tell citizens to ration water during the increasingly hot summer months so the datacentre doesn't get too warm? Are you going to have rolling blackouts for residential buildings to prioritize the datacentre? Because the companies who would run such a datacentre would absolutely demand those things to happen and citizens WILL DIE from such demands. AI companies do not care about the human impact of their slop factories. AI as a technology is not worth the human impact that this would have. Don't waste our tax dollars on something so stupid and harmful. Invest in city infrastructure repairs and improvements. Invest in citizens, not AI

I highly disagree with this project. We know from other data centers that they take up a lot of space, use up a ridiculous amount of water and citizens have to pay for the increased energy usage. The datacentre is presented as an investment, but with the pop of the AI bubble looming, the potential benefits to industry do not outweigh the costs. The environmental toll will last decades beyond the 25 years of potential outlined by this proposal. As Albertans face water restrictions, we should think long and hard about contaminating remaining groundwater with nonessential datacentres.
