I am writing to express my formal opposition to the Beacon AI Centers Indus Project based on the following concerns:
- Regulatory Conflict: The project directly contradicts the SSRP’s mandate for sustainable water management and agricultural preservation.
- Public Health: The proximity (2 km) to the Indus School and Community Centre necessitates a federal review of cumulative air and noise emissions.
- Water Security: The daily draw of 1.5 million liters of potable water during a period of extreme regional drought is an unsustainable use of shared resources.
- Land Use: Redesignating Agricultural Heartland to a Special Industrial District sets a dangerous precedent for the loss of Alberta's food-producing land.
Request: I request that the IAAC require a full Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) that includes a Groundwater Impact Study and a Human Health Risk Assessment for the Hamlet of Indus.
Sincerely,
Elizabeth Barrett
