Unnecessary waste of resources

An AI data center would be a waste of every resource put into it, money, jobs, land, and water.
It would be a waste of money that should be used to fund our already crippled public services, money that the province frankly cannot spare on something that does not provide any real benefit to the communities it would purportedly serve.
Sure the government can argue it would create jobs, but they do not say the quiet part that these jobs are probably going to be temporary. Other buildings can take it's place so builders would not suffer if the proposal is rejected, but AI's whole draw for a lot of corporations and businesses is to REDUCE labor costs and take over jobs that many people could fill.
It would be a waste of land for the simple reason that it could be utilized for community spaces, whether it is an outdoor space or a shopping center, or residential growth. An AI data center would take up space that could block other developments that would better serve the people who live in the area.
Lastly it is a gross waste of water resources that are already strained. Water use restrictions have become so much more common in recent years due to drought conditions, aging infrastructure, and the wildfires that are unfortunately a given thing when temperatures begin to rise. Water is a vital resource and when there are communities that do not have access to clean drinkable water, such as indigenous communities, the province cannot commit to infrastructure that would only increase that scarcity. Lastly there is no clear reports on the impact data centers have on water pollution, which is concerning when our government cannot even seem to manage the clean up of water from oil runoff.
