Latvia - Riga - Construction of a Military Dining Facility (DFAC)

The Department of National Defence (DND) has proposed a project. The project involves the construction of a 2,900 m2 permanent Dining Facility (DFAC) with 700 seats to accomodate approximately 27 percent (~ 300 personnel) of the military base's multinational population due to inadequate space and outdated facilities. The project will occur on developed, and serviced land. The facility will meet all hygiene, fire safety, and food storage regulations and minimize environmental impact in line with Latvian Environmental Protection Law and Canadian environmental guidelines.

Latest update

June 9, 2026 - The Department of National Defence intends to make a determination regarding whether the carrying out of the project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. To help inform this determination, the Department of National Defence is inviting public comments until June 18, 2026 respecting that determination.
