Pleasant Camp Port of Entry Redevelopment
This is a non-designated project on federal lands or outside Canada. The listed authorities are responsible for the project assessment.
As part of its commitment to border infrastructure enhancements, the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) is upgrading or replacing select land border ports of entry (POE) to modernize its custodial facilities. Included as part of this initiative, is the Pleasant Camp POE. The new building will replace the current facility that is past its lifecycle, and will be rebuilt within the existing site footprint.
This will require the construction of new buildings, infrastructure and the demolition of existing facilities. Work will be planned gradually in order to maintain the site operations at all times throughout. Construction is scheduled to begin summer 2026 and completed summer 2029.
The activities associated with the completion of the project include:
- Conduct environmental surveys and works per Construction Environmental Management Plan(s)
- Excavation and leveling work
- Potential management and removal of contaminated soils;
- Construction of roadworks
- Construction of new buildings, and other infrastructure;
- Demolition of buildings, and other infrastructure;
As part of the project planning stage, environmental assessments were completed. An Environmental Effects Evaluation performed by WSP Engineering in 2018 included a review of biophysical, socio-economic, and health effects. In 2025, Keystone Engineering was engaged to update these reviews; consequently, a biological field assessment was completed and a Construction Environmental Management Plan was developed.
Additionally, Atkins Réalis completed an Archaeological Overview Assessment in 2025 to evaluate the potential for proposed works to impact archaeological resources. The potential for the work area was identified as "low" and a procedure has been established in the event of a discovery.
The CBSA has engaged, and will continue to engage, all potentially impacted Indigenous communities.
