Upgrade of existing softball field, east of the Base Gymnasium (Building 399) – Canadian Forces Base 5 Wing Goose Bay

The Department of National Defence (DND) is proposing a project. In the past, 5 Wing Goose Bay had two usable softball fields near building 399 (Base Gymnasium), however both became unusable over time because they fell into poor condition. This project involves upgrading the existing softball field closest to B399 while decommissioning the fence and bleachers from the other. The upgrade of this field will provide users with the convenience to access the Gym facilities (i.e. lockers, bathrooms, showers, etc.). The total estimated project area is 9,000 m2, consisting of:

  1. Approximately 8,500 m2 (softball field shape with side length of approximately 100 m and radius of approximately 92m) of prepared surfaces for the softball field, including grass and placement of granulars, new fence construction, relocation of existing bleachers, decommissioning of existing fencing;
  2. Approximately 500 m2 (approximately 50.0m x 10.0 m) for the installation of a new hydrant.

The proposed Project is scheduled to be completed during the field season of the 2026-2027 fiscal year.
