York Factory Prevention Centre
This is a non-designated project on federal lands or outside Canada. The listed authorities are responsible for the project assessment.
The scope of this project is to design and construct a new First Nation Child and Family Services prevention centre immediately
adjacent to the existing hockey arena, connecting the arena to the proposed FNCFS prevention centre. The new space will
consist of a gymnasium/community space, office space/therapy rooms and wellness and recreational spaces. This includes its
water and sanitary sewer connections. The water and sewer services will be connected to the existing watermain and sanitary
sewer that are buried along the north side of Evergreen Way {community road). Decommissioning/ relocation of any Existing
Structures, Geotechnical Investigation, Water and Wastewater Service installation, Driveway and Parking Lot Construction,
Building Construction, Facilities Construction.
Waste generation: Solids — Any solid waste that cannot be reused will be removed to the community landfill or another
licensed landfill as appropriate The local waste facilities are located approximately 2.74 km west of the proposed site. Gaseous
— During construction, the equipment will emit exhaust gases and particulate matter. Maintaining construction equipment to
good working order and running equipment only when necessary, will minimize emissions. Hazardous Materials — Fuel and/or
other substances that may be required on site during construction will be properly labelled and contained to avoid spillage or
misuse. Spill kits will be kept on site at all times. Liguid — Best management practices will be used during construction to
prevent erosion and sedimentation in adjacent water bodies.
The proposed area is relatively flat with a slight gradient towards the southwest. The topography drops significantly beyond the
southern boundary and slopes nearly 10 % close to the river bank. The dominant soil type is clay.
Past Land Uses: The site consists of previously developed land that is partially covered in gravel. Vegetation cover in the area
consists of sparse long grasses.
Current Land uses: An existing camp/hotel is situated within the eastern edge of the proposed prevention centre. The
camp/motel will be decommission/relocated 50 metres north of the existing arena. A proposed new band office is proposed to
be constructed next to the prevention centre, approximately 40 m to the east.
The site is more than 400m away from an active and/or closed waste site.
The site is more than 400m away from a lagoon.
The site is more than 400m away from a bulk fuel site.
