Prince of Wales Fort Dock Dredging
This is a non-designated project on federal lands or outside Canada. The listed authorities are responsible for the project assessment.
Since the main access to PWF is by boat, the channel that leads to the boat dock requires dredging approximately after a few years of sediment build-up. The entire channel is located within the inter-tidal zone in the Churchill River estuary. Parks Canada authorized dredging to be completed in 1990-1991, June 1998, July 2001, July 2003, spring 2007 and July 2009. The substrate is sand, gravel and cobble which is continuously resorted and shifted by water and ice. Material removed from the channel has been added to the south breakwater that provides protection to the dock from the south, and to the west. This project will be assessed with a basic impact assessment.
