uniting TOwards Gender Equality for enjoyment of women's and girls' Total HEalth and Rights

The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA International) is undertaking a project in Kenya entitled TOGETHER (uniting TOwards Gender Equality for enjoyment of women's and girl's Total HEalth and Rights).  The project aims to increase the enjoyment of health-related rights for the most vulnerable children, adolescent girls, and women.  One of the project components is the constructon of a borehole in Kakuma-Lopacho village in Turkana County.  The borehole will be located close to the Tarach riverbed.  It will serve the total village population of 3,541 (1,472 females, 2,069 males) individuals comprising both community members and learners at the Kakuma Mixed Primary School.  Based on the projected water yield of 50m3 per day, it is anticipated that the borehole will provide each individual with at least 14 liters of clean water per day.  Geoscope Engineering Ltd. (Nairobi) will design the project.  The borehole depth is yet to be determined.  The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) has been completed by the partner and approved by Global Affairs Canada.  The environmental management plan (EMP) is being completed at this time.
