Proposed Project

Witchekan Lake First Nation is proposing the construction of a solid waste transfer station site within NW-17-52-11-W3M and SW-20-52-11-W3M.  The proposed facility will include an attendant building, garage storage, transfer station ramp / dump area, bin pads and a recyclable material sorting.  The approximate size of the proposed site is 128 x 173 m (2.2 ha).  It will include a new access roadway and 120m x 170m built up gravel pad serving as the transfer station area. Concrete retaining walls will be installed for a ramp disposal area and separation of non-household waste materials. The diversion area will be built to handle recyclable materials, a used oil storage tank, a used battery storage container and a 30 cu.yd. waste bins that will remain on site permanently.

Construction activities include layout staking, topsoil stripping, geotextile placement, imported granular fill material for construction of pad, construction of concrete retaining walls, installation of perimeter chain link fencing, placement of 30 cu.yd. waste bins, used oil container and used battery storage container. A portion of site was stripped and re-topsoiled previously during the lagoon project in 2019-20 and remains unused.  The other portion of the site is currently used as farm (crop) land.
