Public Notice

October 27, 2023 – Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada must determine whether the proposed project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

To help inform this determination, Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination. All comments received will be considered public and may be posted online.

Written comments must be submitted by November 27, 2023 to the coordinates listed on the project page.

 

The Proposed Project

New Fibre Installation

Columbia Basin Broadband Corporation plans to install underground fiber optic cabling, for Internet purposes, to all residential homes in the following communities: Appledale, Baynes Lake, Blaeberry, Brandon, Burton, Caithness, Carrolls Landing, ?aqam First Nation reserve Cassimayooks (Mayook) 5, Castledale, Donald, East Arrow Park, Edgewood, Elko, Erie, Fauquier, Field, Forde, Fort Steele, Grasmere, Hall, Harrogate, Hills, Jersey, Kicking Horse, Kragmont, Lebahdo, Lemon Creek, Makinson, Mayook, Meadowbrook, Meadows, Moberly School Rd., Monroe Lake, Nelway, New Denver, Nicholson, Park Siding, Parson, Passmore, Perrys, Porto Rico, Red Mountain Rd, Roosville, Rosebery, Ross Spur, Salmo, Silverton, Skookumchuck, Slocan Park, Spillimacheen, Summit Lake, Sweetwater, Ta Ta Creek, Tobacco Plains 2, Vallican, Wardner, Winlaw, Ymir, Galloway and Slocan. The project involves the installation of approximately 300 km backbone fibre and last mile fibre of underground and aerial fiber optic cable along the roads of above mentioned communities.

The cable will be buried by directional drilling, trenching, or using existing conduits, or a combination of these methods in existing roadway alignments, but will be suspended on support structures to connect to residential homes and businesses.
