Montreal Lake Cree Nation Little Red River Water Treatment Plant Upgrades - Public Comments invited

December 22, 2023 - Indigenous Services Canada must determine whether the proposed Montreal Lake Cree Nation Little Red River Water Treatment Plant Upgrades, to be located on Montreal Lake Cree Nation, is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. To help inform this determination, Indigenous Services Canada is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination.

Proposed Project

Montreal Lake Cree Nation is proposing to construct a new building expansion to the existing water treatment plant building over a new underground concrete reservoir. The new underground concrete reservoir will serve as the foundation for the building expansion. The total building expansion will be approximately 173 sq.m. The proposed building renovation will include new pumping, treatment and treated water storage infrastructure to meet the 10 year design requirements of the community. The project will also include the completion of a new raw water supply well consisting of the installation of 175 lin.m. of 75 mm diameter raw water supply main piping.

The proposed project activities include: removal of existing water treatment plant fencing, construction of new concrete reservoir adjacent to the existing, framing of new building around existing building, demolition of existing building structure, installation of new mechanical and electrical equipment, removal of existing mechanical and electrical equipment, installation of exterior masonry and metal roofing, interior finishes, installation of underground services.

Demolition waste from existing building and the construction activities will be hauled to the nearest permitted disposal site.
