Canadian Forces Station Mill Cove Electrical Upgrade

November 2, 2023 — The Department of National Defence must decide whether the proposed project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

To help inform this decision, the Department of National Defence is inviting comments from the public on the project and its potential effects on the environment. All comments received will be considered public. For more information, individuals should consult the Privacy Notice on the Registry website.

The Proposed Project

The Department of National Defence (DND) is proposing to upgrade electrical communication infrastructure at Canadian Forces Station Mill Cove. The project involves laying over 3 km of new duct banks from the communications towers to the communications building to accommodate new fibre cabling and electrical system upgrades.

 

The proposed scope of work comprises of:

  • Installation of conduit system for power and communications to each existing tower. This includes conduit, wiring, conduit fittings and accessories, pull boxes and junction boxes, racking, supports, and all devices needed for a complete system.
  • Installation of power feeds for receptacles, antenna system power, and power to existing obstruction lights. This includes breakers, disconnect switches, and all associated accessories needed for a complete system.
  • All associated trenching, excavation, backfill, and core drilling.
