September 27, 2023 — The Department of National Defence must decide whether the proposed project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

To help inform this decision, the Department of National Defence is inviting comments from the public on the project and its potential effects on the environment. The Proposed Project

The Department of National Defence (DND) has proposed a project. Work of this Contract comprises of, but is not limited to all labour, material, equipment required to clear cut, chip, and removal of vegetation, including brush, and trees from a total of ten identified areas for a total of approximately 4.25 hectares along North Perimeter Road and Runway 24 within proximity of the airfield (restricted area) boundaries on DND property located at Canadian Forces Base Trenton, Ontario. All vegetation, including stumps, shall be cut to a maximum height of 25 millimeters above grade. Uprooting or stump removal is not required, there will be no ground disturbance on this project. For oversight of species at risk, a qualified Ecologist has been engaged by Defence Construction Canada. They have completed an Environmental Protection Plan and will support the project through construction. Security clearance and coordination with the control tower are required. All work is anticipated to be completed before March 31, 2024, and outside the Migratory Bird Season.
