Tsiiontiatarorokstha Cultural Gathering Place – Public Comments Invited

August 28th, 2023 – Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada (CIRNAC) must determine whether the proposed Tsiiontiatarorokstha Cultural Gathering Place, located in Kanesatake, QC is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

To help inform this determination, Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada (CIRNAC) is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination. All comments received will be considered public and may be posted online.

The Proposed Project

Mohawk Council of Kanesatake will construct a safe place designed for cultural exchange, teaching and transmission of traditional values in support of Indigenous women, girls and 2SLGBTQQIA+ individuals. The cultural centre will be approximately 220 square meters. The selected lot was previously cleared, and does not have any mature trees.
