Victoria Beach Harbour, Manitoba – [July 27, 2023] – Environment and Climate Change Canada, National Hydrological Services and Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Small Craft Harbours Branch, have determined that the carrying out of the proposed Victoria Beach Hydrometric Stilling Well Removal project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

This determination was based on a consideration of the following factors:

• Input provided by provincial and federal regulatory bodies;
• Technically and economically feasible mitigation measures;
• Indigenous knowledge; and
• Impacts on rights of Indigenous peoples.

Mitigation measures taken into account for this determination are:

• Working during frozen conditions to mitigate sedimentation and erosion, and reduce damage to aquatic and riparian vegetation;
• Matching the current core and armour stone specifications used to reduce destabilisation of the lake bank/breakwater; and
• Following federal and provincial legislation to reduce potential effects of Aquatic Invasive Species.

The project authorities are satisfied that the carrying out of this project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

Therefore, Environment and Climate Change Canada, National Hydrological Services and Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Small Craft Harbours Branch, may carry out the project, exercise any power, perform any duty or function, or provide financial assistance to enable the project to be carried out in whole or in part.
