July 25th, 2023 – The Montreal Port Authority (MPA) has determined that the proposed project Repair and optimization of the railway bridge at Pie-IX entrance of the Port of Montreal is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

The mitigation measures taken into account for this determination are as follows:

  • Nuisance management (noise, vibration and dust):
    • Avoid operations during strong winds
    • Use water or dust suppressant on surfaces likely to emit dust
    • Cover soil piles
    • Limit work at night
    • Require dump trucks to be fitted with shock absorbers to prevent rattling
    • Require broadband back-up alarms
    • Create a loop to prevent machinery from reversing
    • Continuous vibration monitoring and measurement
    • Development and implementation of a noise management program
  • Installation of a temporary retaining wall, respecting excavation slopes and management of accumulated water;
  • Capture and management of surface water
  • Management of soils, granular materials and other excavated materials
  • Management of residual and hazardous materials
  • Air quality management :
    • Frequent machinery inspections
    • Limitation of trucking and idling
  • Protection of biodiversity and control of invasive alien species
  • Management of environmental emergencies

Therefore, the MPA may perform any duty or function to enable the project to be carried out in whole or in part.
