The Proposed Project

Fisheries and Oceans Canada- Small Craft Harbours (DFO-SCH) are proposing to demolish the existing timber wharf at Longspur (Lang Lake) SCH and replace the structure with a new concrete launch ramp and separate crib/gangway structure.

The existing timber wharf has come to the end of its functional life and will be removed with a combination of hand tools and heavy equipment. Reusable materials will be salvaged and stockpiled in a designated location on shore. All other demolished materials will be disposed of at a licensed facility.

A new timber frame crib will be placed in the water to support an aluminum gangway anchored on a concrete pad on shore. The approach to the shoreline will be shaped using clear stone to create a subgrade for a concrete ramp. The upper out of water section of the ramp will be cast in place concrete. The in-water sections of the launch ramp will be built with pre-cast concrete panels likely installed by an excavator. The new infrastructure will fall within the footprint of the existing wharf.

Given the timing we will have the contractor implement a silt/sediment curtain for the duration of the project.
