June 9, 2023 Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has determined that the proposed Douglas Lake Ranch Transmission 3 – Phase Line Relocation Project, located in Upper Nicola Band Reserve lands, is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

This determination was based on a consideration of the following factors:

  • impacts on rights of Indigenous peoples;
  • Indigenous knowledge;
  • community knowledge;
  • comments received from the public; and
  • technically and economically feasible mitigation measures.

Mitigation measures taken into account for this determination are outlined in a subsequent registry posting titled BC Hydro – Environmental Management Plan Mitigation Measures. The third-party document is available in English only.

Environment and Climate Change Canada is satisfied that the carrying out of the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects, if all mitigation measures are applied. Therefore, ECCC may exercise any power, or perform any duty or function, to enable the project to be carried out in whole or in part.
