Elsipogtog First Nation Water Treatment Plant Manganese Upgrades – Public Comments Invited

May 24, 2023 – Indigenous Services Canada must determine whether the proposed Elsipogtog First Nation Water Treatment Plant Manganese Upgrades project, located in Elsipogtog First Nation, is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

To help inform this determination, Indigenous Services Canada is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination. All comments received will be considered public and may be posted online.

The Proposed Project

The Elsipogtog First Nation Water Treatment Plant Manganese Upgrades project includes installation of greensand filters within the existing water treatment plant, drilling and connecting a new drinking water well to increase community supply, and installing a sanitary effluent holding tank on site for the backwash water, complete with a lift station pumping effluent water to a nearby lift station along Big Cove Road. The project is expected to require clearing 590 m2 of vegetation.
