Klahoose First Nation Cultural Preservation Centre – Public Comments Invited

April 4th, 2023Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada (CIRNAC) must determine whether the proposed Klahoose First Nation Cultural Preservation Centre, located in Squirrel Cove, BC is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

To help inform this determination, Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada (CIRNAC) is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination. All comments received will be considered public and may be posted online.

The Proposed Project

Klahoose First Nation will construct a cultural centre that will provide a space for the community to gather during cultural events and host representatives from visiting Nations during cultural sharing ceremonies and events, while also allowing visitors to come and learn about their culture. The building will feature approximately 6,000 sq. ft of shared program space, and be located on Tork IR/7 site in Squirrel Cove, on Cortes Island.
